How do we support the voices who speak truth to power in our communities? How do we engage communities and individuals in the fight to preserve and strengthen our democracy? How do we strengthen the progressive voices in Congress and in state legislatures across the country?
One answer to those questions is by sharing the award-winning film, Barbara Lee: Speaking Truth to Power widely so that others can be inspired by her integrity. We are currently in a time where we need to focus on the racial and economic justice issues that are plaguing our communities. Our campaign to push this film out to educational institutions, community centers, virtual screenings and social justice partners is just the beginning of this effort to continue the movement that Speaking Truth to Power represents for our future.
Today, Barbara Lee is the highest-ranking African American woman in the United States Congress. She has been at the forefront of the effort to preserve reproductive rights for women by helping to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act, which codifies Roe v. Wade and the right to safe, legal abortions in the House and is now before the Senate. Barbara Lee has also been fighting to enact the Build Back Better bill and is on the front lines of fighting to preserve voting rights across the country. Speaking Truth to Power will be broadcast on STARZ in early February, 2022 as a part of their BLACK HISTORY MONTH programming.
